GARY, Ind. — The FBI said Monday that missing Gary teen Ja’ Niyah McMichael may be a victim of foul play.

McMichael was last seen Aug. 12 in the 1900 block of Malcolm X Drive.

Her mother filed a missing persons report with Gary police, who describe her as having pierced ears. She was last seen wearing black pajamas with a black hoodie and black and red shoes.

According to family members who spoke with WGN News last fall, McMichael weighs approximately 110 pounds and stands about 5’0″. She would have started 8th grade just days after she was reported missing.

In an update Monday, the FBI said investigators believe she may be the victim of foul play and the search for her “remains an active and ongoing investigation.”

In early October, the FBI executed a search warrant at her home. No information came from that, but investigators said she also has ties to East Chicago.

A total reward of $20,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
