After a chilly Saturday, temperatures will increase around Chicagoland on Sunday, all the way up to around 80 by Monday to begin the work week.
And along with that comes the potential for severe weather.
First, however, Sunday looks to be dry and sunny as high pressure reigns over the area. Early-morning temps were in the mid-40s, but they will increase to the upper 60s inland and around 60 lakeside as light southeast winds take over.
By Monday, surging southern winds will boost high temps all the way to around 80. It will likely be the first 80-degree reading of 2025 at O’Hare International Airport.
But a trailing cold front brings the potential for severe weather to Chicagoland, most likely overnight Monday into early Tuesday morning.
For now, Chicagoland is only at a Slight Risk for severe weather, but if the projected line of storms strengthens rather than weakens, the potential for severe weather could increase.
We’ll keep the situation monitored.
After Monday’s warm temps and possible storms overnight, Tuesday looks to open with muggy conditions, as morning lows will remain way up around 70.
Tuesday afternoon will then see partly sunny skies, with temps in the mid-70s and a chance of isolated afternoon storms returning. The last day of April on Wednesday shows mostly cloudy skies and a chance of a few rain showers.
May then looks to start soggy on Thursday, with highs near 60.
