The 130 a.m. Sunday shooting happened inside an apartment near 4700 SW 11th Street. Officers provided emergency treatment to the 13-year-old and rushed him to an area hospital. But he did not survive, authorities said. His name has not been released.
A second person who was struck by the gunfire was spotted not far from the scene. Authorities said that person was also taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Though the wounds are serious, officials expect this victim to survive.
No arrests have yet been made. The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gresham police.
Neighbors in the area told KOIN 6 News they were pretty shaken up, as this is typically a peaceful area. Many were up all night and one even ducked for cover when they tried to check what was happening.
“We just heard seven shots kind of fire right outside our house. And then my husband got up, saw a car. They just pulled away right after the shooting was done,” recalled Ciera Smith. “He went to look out the window to see what’s going on, there were more shots. So he ducked out really quick.”
Others told KOIN 6 News they possibly saw someone flee the scene in a black sportscar.
This marks the second shooting over the weekend in Multnomah County. The first happened Saturday night when a man in North Portland was sent to the hospital after he was shot in the leg.
Officials said he is expected to survive.
