The Housing Authority was issued thirty-two emergency vouchers by HUD, Bobby Collins said, “We agreed to work with housing and urban development to accept some tenant protection vouchers to allow thirty-two of those families to be able to come in and get a new voucher and go out and find a quality place to live and get out of that situation.”
We spoke to Laquesha a resident at Northwood II she said, “I think it’s something like the apartments is behind like two hundred something thousand dollars or something like that, I don’t know but I just know they came out and they offered us a HUD voucher to love somewhere else, so we supposed to be relocating.”
There have been instances in Shreveport where tenants have been left to their own devices when utility bills have not been paid by complex owners, and units have not been properly maintained. The families who received vouchers have sixty days to use them, and they can choose any property that accepts the vouchers.
