Charles W. Shaw, 78, died on April 20 as a result of injuries he suffered from a crash earlier that week, state leaders said in a news release.
The Kentucky Fire Commission posted on Facebook that Charlie had been instrumental in leading the development of many state fire rescue training programs.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday for Charlie, who reportedly served his community as a firefighter for nearly six decades.
“Gov. Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute,” state officials said in a news release.
