Gibson made his MLB debut on Sunday for the Miami Marlins, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He entered the game down 4-1 to the Philadelphia Phillies, but his performance helped keep the Phillies at bay before the Marlins came back to win 7-5 in extra innings.
Cade grew up in Ruston, Louisiana, and played baseball at Ruston High School. He took his talents to LSUS in 2017 and 2018 as a pitcher and an outfielder.
Gibson earned All-Tournament Team honors in the Red River Conference as a freshman in 2017. He helped LSUS win the RRAC Conference Tournament that year and the regular season title in 2018. Both seasons saw LSUS make appearances in the NAIA Regionals.
Cade transferred to Louisiana Tech for the 2019 season and worked his way onto the starting pitching rotation. He picked up wins on the mound against No. 4 Ole Miss in 2021 and No. 2 LSU in 2022.
Gibson was named Second Team All-Conference USA in his final season before being selected by the Marlins in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
Cade rose through the ranks of the minor leagues fairly quickly. He began with Double-A Pensacola in 2024 and was called up to the majors from Triple-A Jacksonville this season.
Gibson was optioned back to Jacksonville on Monday but remains on the Marlins’ 40-man roster. He has produced a 1-1 record with a 4.26 earned run average in five appearances (12 2/3 innings) with Jacksonville this season.
