Fire crews respond after Oakland sewing shop goes up in flames

(KRON) – Crews responded to an empty sewing shop in flames Sunday morning, according to the Oakland Fire Department. 

OFD was alerted to a fire at a single-story commercial building in the 600 block of Ninth Street at 8:39 a.m.

Arriving crews said they noticed heavy fire billowing from the roof’s structure, and conditions worsened rapidly. A total of 50 firefighters tamed the flames around 30 minutes later. 

Oakland Fire said crews prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby structures, and two structures on Tenth Street were evacuated.

There have not been any reports of injuries, according to OFD.

OFD said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
