Second Driggs man indicted for conspiracy to murder

Jose Noel Ortiz Salas | Jefferson County Jail

DRIGGS — A second Driggs man was indicted for criminal conspiracy to murder and to traffic.

Jose Noel Ortiz Salas, 39, was indicted by a grand jury on April 17 on two counts of felony conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and one count of felony conspiracy to traffic.

This case is nearly identical to another case in Teton County, regarding Anthony Dean Wilson,

who was indicted on the same counts on the same day. At this time, it is unclear if the two cases are connected.

The indictment is sealed to the public, so little information about the case is known, meaning it is unclear whom Ortiz Salas was allegedly conspiring to murder, or what he is accused of conspiring to traffic.

According to Idaho Code, a criminal conspiracy is defined as when “two or more persons combine or conspire to commit any crime or offense prescribed by the laws of the state of Idaho, and one or more of such persons does any act to effect the object of the combination or conspiracy.”

He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $1 million bond.

A warrant was issued for Ortiz Salas’s arrest on April 17, and he was booked into jail on April 18. Court filing systems say the crimes occurred in July and August of 2022, and Fremont County Prosecuting Attorney Lindsey Blake was assigned to be a special prosecutor in the case.

The order to seal the records states that the indictment contains “facts or statements that may compromise the security of Judicial Branch personnel” and “facts of statements that might endanger a person’s life or safety.”

EastIdahoNews.com has reached out to Blake’s office for comment, but we have not heard back.

Ortiz Salas’s district court arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
