Daly City police officers responded to PetSmart on Gellert Boulevard on a report of a robbery at 4:37 p.m. on April 18. A manager told police that a suspect entered the store with an “almost empty” tote bag and left with multiple unpaid items, such as dog leashes, harnesses, accessories and a large bag of dog food.
The manager informed police that he and an employee followed the suspect out of the store. The manager tried to retrieve the items as the suspect was placing them into the car. A second suspect, according to police, wrapped his arms around the manager’s neck and shoulder and attempted to throw him to the ground. The manager did not fall. However, he stumbled slightly away. The suspects then fled in the vehicle.
The car was pulled over by authorities at 4:44 p.m. as it was traveling northbound on Interstate 280, approaching Highway 1.
Colma PD said they located a white backpack containing suspected narcotics and a pipe. The stolen items were also in the vehicle, police said.
Both suspects were 48-year-old San Francisco residents. The duo was arrested and booked into the county jail after being identified by the manager. One of the suspects was arrested for robbery and an outstanding warrant. The other was charged with robbery and an additional offense.
