Weekend Event List: Japanese festival, outdoor markets, marathons and more

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — As temperatures are warming up, take a look at all the events being put on where you can get out and enjoy nature. Check out Nihon Matsuri, join a marathon, celebrate Earth Day, or enjoy an outdoor market this weekend.

Cache Valley:

Cache Valley Kids Market: At Elk Ridge Park in Logan, the Cache Valley Kids’ Spring Market will be taking place Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Kid vendors will be selling their handmade products. There will also be photo opportunities with highland cows, music, treats, and more.

Blossom Run: At Rowley’s Red Barn, there will be a Bloom Run on Saturday, April 26. You can sign up to run a mile, 5K, 10K, or virtual race. Enjoy the sight of the orchards in full blossom during your run, which goes through a hard-packed dirt road in Apple and Cherry Orchards. More details are available through the website.

Salt Lake County:

Millcreek Common Earth Day Celebration: On Friday, April 25, Millcreek Common will be hosting the “Our Power, Our Planet” Earth Day celebration from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

There will be a live auction of custom-painted water barrels, STEM activities, and exhibits from the Jordan River Commission. In addition, enjoy free roller skating and climbing.

Nihon Matsuri Japan Festival: The annual Nihon Matsuri festival will be coming up this weekend on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. It will feature performances, exhibits, a traditional tea ceremony, food vendors, tours of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, and more. Admission is free.

On its website, Nihon Matsuri states its mission is to: “share and educate the larger Utah community about Japanese and Japanese American culture, history, and traditions as well as to be a way to pass on the Japanese traditions and culture to younger fifth, sixth, and seventh generation Japanese Americans and to help them identify with their heritage.”

Salt Lake City Marathon: The annual Salt Lake City Marathon is coming up this Saturday, April 26. Registration is available online, with options for a full, half, bike race, 10 K, 5 K, or Kids K.

Tats for Cats: On Saturday, April 26, head on over to Fallen Angel Tattoos for fun flash tattoos going towards an important cause. The event will be running from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., with proceeds going toward the shelter. See more on the event page.

Tumbleweeds Film Festival For Kids: The “Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Kids” is coming up this weekend. This year’s theme is “Bringing Stories to Life.” The festival will run Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Viridian Event Center at the West Jordan Library.

Utah County:

Earth Day Planting: Vineyard City, Utah Lake Authority, and Lindon City are coming together to host a Planting Party at Utah Lake on Saturday, April 26. Gloves, water, and snacks will be provided, and sunscreen is highly encouraged. The time is set for 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., and a map of where to park is available online. It is mandatory to sign up ahead of time.

Rockwell Market and Food Truck Round Up: From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Rockwell Charter High School in Eagle Mountain, there will be a market and food trucks on Saturday, April 26. There will be vendors, food trucks, and entertainment by students.

Surf into Summer: At Riley’s Taste of Sunshine in Payson, there will be a “Surf into Summer” event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring 40+ vendors, food trucks, sidewalk sale, and more.

Weber County:

Ogden Nature Center 50th Anniversary & Earth Day Celebration: Saturday, April 26, the Ogden Nature Center is celebrating Earth Day and its 50th Anniversary, complete with fun activities, a water-wise perennial plant sale, performances, crafts, food, and more. The event runs from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and admission is free.

Washington County:

Arbor Day Celebration: The Parks Division and Tonaquin Nature Center will be celebrating Arbor Day by planting trees. Head to Bloomington Hills North Park on Saturday, April 26, to be a part of this event.

SALT Contemporary Dance: SALT Contemporary Dance will be bringing two performances to the Kayenta Center for the Arts this weekend. Shows are on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.

Cactus Hugger Bike Race: Bicyclists, get ready for a fun event in Hurricane this weekend — the Cactus Hugger Bicycle Race. It will go across the Jem Trail, as well as sections of the Cryptobiotic and Hurricane Cliffs trails. Register online.

Cotton Days: From April 21 – 27, Cotton Days will be taking place in Washington City. The event will be filled with dancing, a movie, in the park, 5K, breakfast in the park, a car show, activities, and more. See a full list of events and times online.
