“This is an incredibly tragic day,” said Shawn Beaty, Senior Pastor at Clovis Hills Community Church. “Caleb was a brilliant, bright life that was snuffed out and it was just devastating.”
Beaty described the 18-year-old as someone who was full of energy and loved music
“The minute music started at church or something about music, the worship music,” said Beaty. “Just like he was locked in, he ran to the front youth group and started singing and worshiping.”
On Wednesday evening, Clovis Police responded to the area of Willow Avenue and Nees Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
Witnesses on the scene said an individual wearing all black walked up to Caleb and his friends and shot him at close range without any warning.
“The suspect was described as wearing all black with a hoodie pulled over their hood, carrying a handgun,” said Ty Wood with Clovis Police. “They were last seen walking in the area here at Willow and Nees.”
Police canvassed the area looking for the shooter but were unable to find them
“I know our detectives have already been and speaking to people who have been either inside the restaurant or here in the parking lot at the time that the shooting occurred,” said Wood.
“Anytime a life is lost, it hurts the entire community,” said Clovis Mayor Vong Mouanoutoua.
There is currently no known motive behind this shooting; police are continuing to follow all leads. Anyone who may know something is asked to contact the Clovis Police Department at 559-324-2800.
