Search underway for shooter in Floyd County after Prestonsburg man killed

AUXIER, Ky. (FOX 56) — Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP) are searching for a shooter who reportedly ran into the woods after an Auxier man was killed on Friday afternoon.

According to a news release, troopers with KSP Post 9 in Pikeville were told just before 3 p.m. on Friday that a shooting had taken place in the Auxier community of Floyd County.

An initial investigation showed that Steven Adkins, 48, of Prestonsburg, was reportedly shot to death during an alleged fight with Larry Johnson, 67, of Auxier. Adkins was pronounced dead at the Highland Regional Medical Center.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

State police said Johnson’s vehicle was found, but he ran into a wooded area near Jane Brown Branch. He was last seen wearing a blue flannel shirt and blue jeans. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
