Timothée is a gentle, 5-year-old brown tabby who’s been through a lot. He’s understandably a little scared in his shelter photos, and he’s still adjusting to his surroundings. But beneath those cautious eyes is a sweetheart waiting to bloom. He just needs a calm, loving home and someone who’ll give him the time and patience to feel safe. Once he trusts you, Timothée is affectionate, gentle, and full of quiet love.

Timothée also happens to have FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) — and Morris Animal Refuge wants to bust some myths and help people understand what that really means.
What is FIV?
FIV is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system, but it isn’t a death sentence. Most FIV-positive cats live long, happy, healthy lives with good care. It’s NOT contagious to humans or other species.
How is FIV spread?
FIV is mainly transmitted through deep bite wounds — the kind that happen between unneutered outdoor males who fight. It’s not spread by sharing food bowls, litter boxes, or cuddles. In fact, many FIV+ cats live peacefully with non-FIV cats.
Caring for an FIV+ cat
Cats like Timothée just need regular vet visits, a good diet, and a stress-free indoor life to thrive. With a little extra TLC, FIV+ cats can be some of the most loving companions you’ll ever meet.
