According to police and CTA officials, the incident unfolded just after 7 p.m. at the Blue Line Divison station near the 1600 block of North Ashland Avenue in West Town.
Officers said the victim, a male whose age is unknown, fell onto the track at the station before he was hit by a train. He was later pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash caused some delays for CTA riders on Thursday night. The incident sparked a temporary suspension of Blue Line service between Western and LaSalle. It is unclear how long the disruptions are expected to last.
The crash is just the latest in a recent string of deadly train crashes around Chicagoland.
On Wednesday, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metra train in Brookfield, it happened only a day after another pedestrian was fatally struck by a train near Westmont.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the incident and an investigation is now underway.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call CPD Area Five Detectives at 312-746-6554 or dial 911.
