Airport improvements continue

The council approved resolutions to award bids for multiple projects at Cullman Regional Airport:

  • A bid for a towbarless tug to MayDay Aero, LLC, in the amount of $50,999. Airport Director Ben Harrison told the council that the new equipment will allow crews to move larger and heavier aircraft on the ground as the airport seeks to draw in such business.
  • A bid for general aviation reconstruction and terminal apron rehabilitation to Wiregrass Construction Company, LLC, in the amount of $4,134,155.59. This priority project will allow the parking of more and heavier aircraft. Harrison said that 95% of this project will be paid for through federal grants, and that the City and County will split the 5% local funding commitment.
  • A bid for midfield development to Wiregrass Construction Company, LLC, in the amount of $1,259,806.27.  Harrison said that this later project will develop another 20 acres of available land at the airport, and again that the City and County will share only 5% of the bill.

According to Harrison the two construction projects, totaling over $5.4 million, will cost the City only around $67,000.

Rock the South back on the agenda, approved

Rock the South organizers, whose event permit had been tabled at the last meeting due to missing reports from the police and fire departments, saw their permit come back to the council. The permit was approved without issue.
