WGN’s Jarrett Payton, Josh Frydman remember Bears legend Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael

CHICAGO (WGN) — WGN Sports anchors Jarrett Payton and Josh Frydman are among the many sports media personalities reflecting on the life of Bears legend and Hall of Famer Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichaels, who died Wednesday following a years-long battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

McMichael was 67.

Payton described McMichael as a big man with an even bigger heart.

“He was also a person who had so much wisdom inside of his brain,” he said. “When you looked at him as a football player, they called him ‘Mongo,’ this guy runs around the field and tackles people…but you talk about a guy who cared and had compassion about everything that he did…Steve was always there.”
