‘Schoolhouse Rock’ camp set for June 9-14

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Schools Foundation is hosting a “Schoolhouse Rock” music camp this summer, offering students a fun and energetic introduction to foundational music concepts through the songs of “Schoolhouse Rock.” Facilitated by the McCluskey School of Music and Heirlooms Fine and Performing Arts, the camp is open to students aged 7-17 and will include group singing, movement and performance activities – and an opportunity to learn about music, stage presence and teamwork. At the end of the camp, participants will perform all the songs and skills they have learned for the community.

The camp was inspired by the desire to share musical education while combining it with a sense of nostalgia and fun. “Schoolhouse Rock” has been a beloved tool for teaching subjects through fun songs and colorful pictures. The Foundation saw this as the perfect opportunity to encourage creativity and build confidence.

Participation is open to all students in the Cullman community, whether they’re in the city school system, county school system, in private school or homeschooled. The camp aims to build a love for music, build confidence and help build friendships in a supportive environment. No musical experience is required, making it perfect for beginners and experienced performers alike. All proceeds from the camp go to the Foundation, supporting local education initiatives.

Foundation Specialist and Owner And Director of Heirlooms Fine and Performing Arts, Paige Clabo, said she hopes to encourage students of all ages and skills to join in the fun.

“This camp is designed to be supportive, welcoming and fun for everyone. Whether you’ve never sung in front of others or already love the stage, this is your moment to grow, explore and surprise yourself. Everyone starts somewhere, and this is the perfect place to begin your performance journey,” Clabo said.

The camp will take place June 9-14, from 8 a.m.-noon each day, at East Elementary. The cost is $120 per child, and the performance dates will be Thursday, June 12, at 6 p.m. and Friday, June 13, at 6 p.m. Payments can be made by cash or check (made out to the Cullman City Schools Foundation) or at www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/2XVTJWM6TXQMQ
