Man charged in connection with bank robbery in Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. (WGN) — A felony charge has been filed against a man accused of robbing a southwest suburban bank on Monday afternoon.

Joliet police say 35-year-old Benito Delgado, a Joliet resident, has been charged with one count of financial institution robbery.

According to police, the charge stems from Delagod’s alleged role in a robbery that unfolded at a BMO bank located at 78 North Chicago Street in Joliet.

Officers said Delgado allegedly entered the bank just before 2 p.m. on Monday before he handed a teller a note demanding cash.

After obtaining more than $2,000 from the teller, Delgado allegedly fled the scene.

Police said no weapons were displayed during the robbery and no injuries were reported.

Joliet detectives, with the help of federal law enforcement partners, were eventually able to identify Delgado as a suspect in the case and learned that he had been arrested on unrelated traffic charges in another jurisdiction the day after the alleged robbery.

Delagado was then transported to the Joliet Police Department for questioning before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
