From Calvin to Ronald, and Chubby to Big Daddy Roy himself, the Carrier family is a Zydeco legacy worth highlighting as the Carrier Family Celebration takes over the Yambilee Building
“Friday night, Dwight Carrier wants to have an open jam.” Kahn said. “Saturday is the big celebration event where Roy Carrier finally gets inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame someplace, he should have been a long time ago. The family itself, there’s this immense wave of pride rolling through the family.”
The documentary will cover the generations of the Carrier Family and will highlight milestone moments of their impact in zydeco music.
“Andrew (Carrier) is the hidden story we didn’t know was there. In this trip to Opelousas, he will actually perform in front of his family for the first time in his life.” Kahn said.
With the impact left on Zydeco and Acadiana area by the Carrier family that continues to live on through artists like Cubby Carrier, Kahn said his love for the genre only grew as he worked on the documentary and learned even more about the family on a deeper connection.
“My mission is to get this done because if I don’t do it, nobody else will.” Kahn expressed. “It’s something I took on. I’ve been interested in seeing it get done. I thought somebody else was going to do it, but nobody else stepped up to do it. So, they came to me to try and get this story told.”
While the production of the documentary is still underway, the musical event will take place April 25 through 27 with the Carrier Family Celebration in Opelousas.
