Bay Area cooling trend continues with possible rain in coming days

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A cooling trend continues across the Bay Area on Thursday as a strengthening area of low pressure approaches the Golden State.

Marine layer stratus has developed across the Bay Area. Some of the far interior locations could see sunshine for a few hours in the afternoon, but the coastal region and the coastal valleys are likely to remain socked in through the day. Patchy drizzle and fog are possible within the marine layer clouds. Today’s high temperatures will be mid-50s to low 60s at the coast and bay, and low to mid 60s in the inland valleys.

In some favored regions, such as the Altamont Pass, Pacheco Pass, and the Mayacamas, gusty winds could last well into the evening.

The low will impact the state in the coming days. Light rain, drizzle, and isolated thunderstorms are possible throughout the region Friday and Saturday. In the southern and eastern mountains of Santa Clara County, including the Santa Cruz Mountains, the forecast is for 0.10-0.25 inches of rain. Rain totals across the rest of the Bay Area will be very light, especially across the North Bay, and wetting rains (over 0.1 inches of rain) are not likely.

Ridging should return after the trough moves out, with daytime highs rebounding to near to slightly above the seasonal averages in the early and middle part of next week.

Sunrise in San Francisco is at 6:21 a.m. Sunset is at 7:54 p.m.
