Scattered storms to return on Wednesday

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – After a couple of days of dry weather for most of the ArkLaTex, the threat of a few scattered showers and thunderstorms will return beginning on Wednesday.  The good news is that severe weather is looking doubtful.

Models trending drier!  Clouds will increase across the area on Tuesday night with mainly dry conditions.  Expect a mostly cloudy sky on Wednesday.  Futurecast continues to show some scattered showers and thunderstorms moving across the area during the afternoon. It appears that the rain could be more widespread over the southern half of the area.  This rain will move out of the area Wednesday evening, and new scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop further north before decreasing Wednesday night.  The threat of scattered storms will likely continue through Friday. While we could see a few strong storms during this period, it is doubtful that many, if any, reach severe limits.

Futurecast outlook for the next 36 hours

Limited rain for most:  Given the scattered nature of the expected rainfall, we will likely see big variations in rainfall totals from now through Wednesday night.  Futurecast shows that most areas will see less than ¼”.  We will have pockets that receive  ½” to 1”.  It is possible that the heaviest rainfall totals of more than 1” could occur over the northern edge of the area.

Warm despite the rain:  Temperatures on Wednesday will not be as warm thanks to the clouds and rain.  Lows Wednesday morning will settle into the low to middle 60s.  Daytime highs will likely struggle to make it into the upper 70s to lower 80s, which is somewhat normal for this time of year.

Tomorrow’s forecast

Long-range outlook: Your 10-day forecast shows that showers and thunderstorms are still looking promising from Wednesday through Friday.  We should see much less rain this weekend and early next week before the threat of storms returns by the middle of next week.  Highs will begin the period in the low 80s and warm to the upper 80s to near 90 degrees by the end of the weekend.  They will then ease back into the low to middle 80s next week.  Lows most nights will remain in the 60s.  Severe weather is looking limited during this period, but we will have to watch the disturbances next week.
