Resolution passes to protect San Mateo County jobs from AI

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KRON) — Artificial intelligence will be taking many jobs, but if you work for San Mateo County, the county wants to protect you from being fired.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday stating that if AI displaces jobs, the county will do all it can to create new jobs that humans can fill.

Additionally, if AI were to take a job, it couldn’t do so immediately. Instead, that worker will be able to hold on to it until they choose to find another job or retire.

San Mateo County is no different from the rest of the world as industries try to integrate AI while also trying to retain human jobs or protect their existing roles.
