Lori Vallow Daybell found guilty of conspiracy to murder husband

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.

PHOENIX (ABC4) — Following several hours of jury deliberation, Lori Vallow Daybell has been declared guilty on a conspiracy to commit murder charge. Her husband, Charles Vallow, was shot and killed on July 11, 2019. Vallow Daybell is representing herself.

Vallow Daybell was previously sentenced for murder and conspiracy to murder her children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ashlyn Ryan, 16. She was sentenced to prison and is currently serving five life sentences.

family members and even a woman who testified she and Vallow had a date the evening before Charles Vallow was killed. Also on the stand were first responders at the scene of Charles Vallow’s death on July 11, 2019.

“Don’t let them turn my family tragedy into a crime,” Vallow Daybell said during closing arguments on Monday.

Prosecutors made the case that Vallow Daybell worked alongside her brother, Alex Cox, to premeditate the homicide of Vallow.

“What we see is a very planned out, premeditated murder,” prosecutor Treena Kay said in her closing argument.

According to testimony from witnesses, Vallow had discovered that Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell were having an affair. He changed his life insurance beneficiary to his sister, Kay Woodcock.

Vallow arrived in Arizona the day before his murder to hold an intervention with Vallow Daybell about her religious beliefs straying from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her brother, Alex Cox, was supposed to meet with him and her other brother, Adam Cox, but instead went to Vallow Daybell’s home.

The next morning, according to Vallow Daybell, Vallow came to pick up JJ and a fight broke out. Following this, Alex Cox shot Vallow twice, causing his death, according to police. Vallow Daybell tells police she fled the house immediately after.

911 would not be called for over 40 minutes, according to cell phone data collected from Vallow and Alex Cox’s phones.

“Lori had told people that Charles was no longer living… that there’s a zombie living inside of him. And Alex didn’t respond to any of my text messages when I was supposed to be with him. And he was at that house that morning,” Adam Cox, Vallow Daybell’s other brother, testified during the trial. “All these things added up… no doubt in my mind that they killed him.”

Sentencing is not expected to take place today. ABC4.com will keep you updated on what happens next.
