Laurel County woman indicted for shooting death of mother

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Brianna Rich, the 26-year-old accused of shooting and killing her mother, has been indicted by a grand jury.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 9 p.m. on March 14 on Burnett Road. When authorities arrived, they found the body of Carol Rich outside of her home.

RELATED:

“I just shot at my mother,” Brianna can be heard saying to a 911 dispatcher. “I’m holding blankets on her wounds, and she don’t have a pulse. There’s a lot of blood.”

Brianna entered a not guilty plea to one count of murder.

“We will proceed with what we got; it will go to the grand jury next, and if the grand jury indicts it, it will go through the court system,” Public Affairs Deputy Gilbert Acciardo told FOX 56.

On April 18, a grand jury indicted Brianna, citing that the jury was able to establish probable cause.

“I am full of hate, and I am angry at her, but my mom did love her. So I got to find that forgiveness, not for her, but for myself, because she’s dead; Brianna is dead to me, but my mom is alive; she was saved; she’s in heaven,” Bridgett Rich, Brianna’s sister, told FOX 56.

Court proceedings are set to continue, with a pretrial conference scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 28. She will be represented by a public defender.

Brianna remains in police custody, lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center on a $250,000 bond.
