Gresham man slashed partner’s throat in front of 10-year-old daughter, gets 70-month sentence

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Gresham man pleaded guilty to slashing his partner’s throat in front of their daughter in 2021.

Manuel Jesus Huchin-Interian took the plea offer on April 18, prior to the case going to trial. Under Measure 11, he is expected to be sentenced to nearly six years in prison for the charge of second-degree assault constituting domestic violence, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said.

The incident unfolded on June 7, 2021, after police responded to the home following multiple 911 calls, including from the couple’s 10-year-old daughter.

When Gresham police officers arrived, they found the woman “lifeless” in a pool of her own blood with an 8-inch cut to her neck, though she ultimately survived.

The daughter had reported that her parents had argued and then her father stabbed her mother. She then took a knife to defend herself, attempting to stab her father, but it was too dull, so she dropped it and barricaded herself in her room with her younger siblings, court documents said.

She only unlocked the door and emerged from the room after her dad left, staying on the line with 911 and rendering aid to her mom.

“The victim later told police the defendant had accused her of cheating and took a knife and cut her throat. While doing so he said he was going to ‘finish her’ and then ‘finish the kids,'” the Multnomah County DA’s office said in a press release.

Huchin-Interian fled and was later arrested in San Francisco in March 2024. His sentencing is set for April 28, where he is expected to receive 70 months in prison and three years of post-prison supervision.
