Bay FC to play at Oracle Park in first-ever pro women’s soccer match at MLB stadium in SF

(KRON) — Bay FC, the Bay Area’s professional women’s soccer team, will play a regular-season game at Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, this summer in a “milestone event.”

The contest will be the first-ever women’s professional soccer match played at Oracle Park. Bay FC’s game against the Washington Spirit is set to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Oracle Park (40,260 capacity) is much larger than Bay FC’s normal home field at PayPal Park (18,000 capacity). Bay FC’s match last year at the Chicago Stars in Wrigley Field drew a league-record 35,038 fans.

Bay FC looks to break another attendance record come Aug. 23.

“That (Wrigley Field game) was incredible too,” Bay FC defender Abby Dahlkemper told KRON4. “Be a part of history like that. So to be able to hopefully break another record in the Bay at home would be incredible.”

“We’re honored to welcome Bay FC and the NWSL to Oracle Park for what will be a truly historic
moment,” Giants President of Enterprises Stephen Revetria said in a news release. “Oracle Park has long been home to iconic events across sports and entertainment, and we’re proud to host our first-ever women’s professional soccer match this summer. The match represents a milestone not only for the ballpark, but for the entire Bay Area community.”

Oracle Park has hosted a number of high-profile soccer matches in its 25-year history. The stadium hosted more than 37,000 fans in 2006 when the U.S. Men’s National Team beat Japan ahead of that year’s FIFA World Cup. In 2022, more than 40,000 fans packed the house for an exhibition between Real Madrid and Club América.

Bay FC was founded in 2023 as one of the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) expansion teams. The team plays its home games at PayPal Park in San Jose, which is also the home of the MLS’s Earthquakes.

Tickets for Bay FC versus the Washington Spirit on Aug. 23 will go on sale to the general public on May 6 at 9 a.m. PT. They can be purchased by visiting the SF Giants’ website.
