Tugboat hits railroad bridge in Melville causing significant damage

MELVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A railroad bridge in St. Landry Parish was struck by a tugboat in the Atchafalaya River.

Officials said the tugboat hit the railroad trestle in Melville while moving barges down the river.

While there have been no immediate reports of injuries, officials have said there is significant damage to the barge it.

Officials are evaluating the bridge for damages.
