According to the SWBNO, Turbine 4 is currently out of service, reducing power generation capacity in the event of known incoming storms. SWBNO teams, as well as contractors, have been deployed to address the problem.
SWBNO officials say that otherwise, the power system is working and available for use. Additionally, 89 of 93 major drainage pumps are still available for use.
The drainage system in New Orleans is made to pump an inch of rain at the first hour of rainfall, before reducing to a half inch at every additional hour after that. Rainfall that exceeds that rate can cause street flooding.
