High storm chances through mid-week, weather improves for weekend

We’re seeing scattered storms out there this afternoon as a frontal boundary remains stalled in our moisture-rich atmosphere. Some of the storms out there today could be on the stronger side, containing gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and small hail. The Storm Prediction Center has us highlighted for a level one risk of a severe storm today. These storms have also had high rainfall rates, so flash flooding could be possible if a storm stalls over a location.

These storms could linger into the late evening, especially for northern areas of Acadiana and central parts of the state. For tomorrow, another day of widespread storms with rain coverage near 70%. Like today, storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall.

Storms will remain in the forecast through Thursday as well, but thereafter, a ridge of high pressure will begin to build from the south. With this high pressure, atmospheric moisture and lift will both decrease, and the main frontal boundary at the surface will get pushed northward. This will lead to a lowering of rain chances starting Friday and continuing into the weekend. Storms chances will be in the isolated (20%) range both Saturday and Sunday. With more sunshine, hot temperatures are expected, as highs will climb into the upper 80s!

The drier and hotter weather pattern looks to continue into early next week.
