A far warmer weather pattern is taking shape this week, likely among the warmest stretch of 2025 so far.
Highs away from the lake are likely to top 70 degrees beginning Tuesday, continuing through Friday before cooler weather arrives this weekend.
The warmth will also come with multiple chances for showers and thunderstorms, but the rains will hardly be continuous with sizeable gaps. The two periods right now that look to feature the best rainfall coverage across the area are late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and Friday into Friday night.
The greatest risk for severe thunderstorms is likely to occur across the southern Plains, from portions of western Texas into south-central Kansas where a level two of five risk has been assessed by The Storm Prediction Center. For the Chicago area, a level one (or marginal risk) has been issued for the potential of seeing an isolated strong or severe thunderstorm late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. The main threat would be large hail and perhaps some gusty winds.
