LAFAYETTE, La. (
KLFY) — The
Fin, Feather, Fur, Food Festival, also known as F5, has raised more than a half a million dollars for the
Team Gleason Foundation in its three years of existence.
The fourth edition of the cookoff will be Thursday at Blackham Coliseum.
Team Gleason is a nonprofit organization providing resources, technology and adventures for those living with ALS, according to its website.
Almost 33,000 Americans have ALS. That’s about 10 percent of those worldwide diagnosed with the disease.
Dale Clark, who was diagnosed a few years ago with ALS, is part of the team working to put together the F5 event.
Clark said the goal is to “provide wheelchairs, eyegaze and a bunch of other equipment that the people live in ALS (need) to improve their lives. And it’s all done free of charge.”
Former UL football coach Gerald Broussard, also part of the F5 team, said the festival is a must-see for those who enjoy food. That is, everyone in Louisiana.
“As people get there, you just walk around and sample all the dishes and it’s just a small sample of it,” Broussard said. “But I promise you, you will be full by the time because it is such a variety of different dishes.”
The Fin, Feather, Fur Food Festival gets underway at 4 p.m. at Blackham Coliseum.
