Festival International showcases Ukrainian band Yagódy
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Performing this year’sFestival International,Yagódy a European band ready to bring Ukrainian music to Acadiana.
Yagódy, which in Ukranian translates to “berries,” is known to perform reinterpreted Ukrainian folk songs for modern-day audiences.
In June 2016, the band was founded in Lviv, Ukraine with Zoriana Dybovska, one of the lead singers, as the driving force and band mates being talented actresses who she taught stage speech in the past. Together, they explored the Ukrainian repertoire through artistic “home expeditions” and learned to play musical instruments.
In 2020 the band presented their debut album with the same name, “YAGODY,” along with a music video for the song “Kalyna-Malyna.” The album included ten singles based on Ukrainian and foreign folk music. In 2021, a music video for the single “Zelena Lishchyna” was released, followed by “Divonko” in 2022. In 2023, the band created their first original song “Tsunamia”, which they will present in the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Currently, the band has refreshed and grown. They actively tour Europe and organize charity concerts abroad. The ensemble consists of three vocalists, an accordionist, a bass guitarist, a drummer, and a cymbalist.
This year the European band will be touring in the US and are excited for an opportunity to perform her in south Louisiana.
“We are excited about the first US tour and are more excited to perform at first music festival and happy it’s in Louisiana.” said Victor Kravchenko, the band’s general manager.
