Daniels will be posthumously inducted after his August 2024 death.
According to the university, the Den of Distinction is the school’s alumni hall of fame and honors Loyola alumni who have “distinguished themselves by a lifetime of accomplishments or extraordinary achievement.”
“The stories he shared about his time at Loyola were always filled with great affection and pride. Ed would be deeply humbled and honored to join such a prestigious group of professionals. I know he is looking down from Heaven, proud to be inducted into the Den of Distinction,” said Ed’s wife, Robin Daniels, in a news release.
Daniels graduated from Loyola in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
In 1992, Daniels became WGNO’s Sports Director and started programs like WGNO’s “Friday Night Football.” He highlighted prep-sports year-round with WGNO’s “Friday Night Sports” and Friday Night Fastball” programming.
In November 2024, it was announced that Daniels would be honored with the LSWA’s 2025 Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism.
He will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in June as part of the 2025 class.
Other Den of Distinction nominees will include sports journalists Ro Brown and Ken Trahan.
Daniels, Brown and Trahan will be inducted at a ceremony at The Chloe on May 5. For more information and ticket prices, visit the Loyola University website.
