CPSO investigate fatal shooting of 16-year-old girl

VIVIAN, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Vivian Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Pardue Street in Vivian in response to a shooting at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old female lying on the floor inside the residence with a gunshot wound to her upper body.

Caddo Fire District 8 arrived shortly afterward and pronounced the young woman deceased.

According to a release from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO), the Vivian Police Department then contacted CPSO for assistance.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived and took over the investigation.

CPSO investigators transported two teenage witnesses, a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old female, of the shooting to the detective’s office.

Upon arriving at the detective’s office, the two teenagers were read their Miranda rights before they were interviewed. A legal guardian was present for the 16-year-old female.

During the interviews, they admitted to shooting the 16-year-old female while at the residence in Vivian.

After the interviews were conducted, Wyatt L. Sanders, 17-year-old, was taken to Caddo Correctional Center (CCC), where he was booked on one count of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and one count of negligent homicide.

The 16-year-old female was transported to Caddo Juvenile Detention Center, where she was booked on one count of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and one count of negligent homicide.
