Petaluma pedestrian struck, injured by alleged DUI driver’s minivan

(KRON) — A pedestrian who was walking inside a crosswalk Friday morning in Petaluma was struck and injured by a minivan, the Petaluma Police Department said Monday. The driver of the minivan, identified as 38-year-old Alexander McDonald, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, according to authorities.

The Petaluma police and fire departments responded at 6:30 a.m. to the report of a vehicle crash near D and 12th streets. Arriving first responders found the injured pedestrian in the roadway, Petaluma PD said. She was transported to a local medical facility for her injuries and is expected to survive.

McDonald, who was not injured in the crash, was contacted by officers at the scene. A DUI investigation was initiated after officers noted “objective signs of alcohol intoxication,” Petaluma PD said.

McDonald was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for DUI crash with injury.
