London boy eager to serve community joins volunteers for Spring Cleanup Day

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — How old were you when you completed your first community service project? Chances are, it was older than age eight.

The City of London wrote on Facebook on Saturday that Sean Carpenter was just two when he told his family he was concerned about the amount of litter he saw on his way to school at Campground Elementary.

“He’s brought it up off and on since he’s been about two years old,” Sean’s mother, Cassandra, said. “He’s always wanted to do something on KY-229, but we knew it was too dangerous. He brought it up again a couple of months ago, so I started searching for when they do the spring cleanup.”

Sean’s mom said she contacted London Tourism and Parks, who planned the community cleanup event and signed up.

“The young, thoughtful volunteer was happy with the amount of trash that was removed from busy streets Saturday,” London officials wrote. “He said he plans to help again during the next cleanup.”

London officials said we should all make the world a cleaner place, like Sean.
