Marion County man arrested for striking someone with bat

A Marion County man has been arrested for hitting another person with a bat at a business in Flippin. Twenty-five-year-old Chipper Wade Statum of Yellville is being held in the Marion County Detention Center.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Flippin Police Department, officers were called to the Casey’s store last Friday morning shortly after 4:30 for a report of a physical domestic dispute.

When they arrived, the discovered Statum had hit the victim in the head with a wooden bat. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Statum is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault and is being held on a $50,000 bond. He is also held on failure to appear and non-payment of fines charges. Bonds on those charges total $1,585.

PREVIOUS ARRESTS

Statum has three previous felony arrests in three different Arkansas counties with one case in Marion County still open.

In that case, Statum was arrested in January of 2022 on charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, second degree false imprisonment and second degree interference with an emergency communication device after his girlfriend tried to break up with him.

She told deputies he slapped, kicked, choked, and shoved her before ripping off her shirt and bra. He then tried unsuccessfully to light her jacket on fire. The attack lasted about one hour and he took her phone during this time so she could not call for help.

STONE COUNTY ARREST

About six months later, Statum was arrested in Stone County for Kidnapping, aggravated assault, terroristic threatening, domestic battery, violation of a protection order and driving on a suspended license.

In that incident, the same victim told deputies Statum had forced her to go with him and told her he would slit her throat if she didn’t. They left Batesville and traveled to Mountain View and went into the Walmart store. When he went into the restroom, she told an employee what was going on and she went into the restroom and stayed. The employee called law enforcement.

During the ride, Statum had threatened to kill the victim and her family and again, had physically assaulted her.

The case wound up being nolle prosequi.

WHITE COUNTY ARREST

Statum was arrested in White County in February of 2024 on charges of residential burglary, criminal mischief and two counts each of fleeing on foot and violation of a no contact order.

Court records show Statum had gone to a woman’s home twice who had a no-contact order against him. He entered the home both times, damaging the front door and door frame, a window and her computer. When officers arrived, he fled the area.

For that incident, he received 48 months probation.
