By rssfeeds-admin VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – Vicksburg police warned neighbors to watch out for wildlife amid the flooding from the Mississippi River.
According to police, officers spotted baby bears in the river near the WaterView Casino on Thursday, April 17.
“While it’s a beautiful sight, we want to remind our community to stay alert. Rising waters often bring animals and insects closer to homes and businesses. Please be cautious near wooded areas and riverbanks,” police said.
In early April, Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr., declared a State of Emergency for the city due to rising river levels. The river is now expected to crest at 48 feet on April 23, 2025.
Flood walls and barricades have already been installed throughout the city. Officials expect about 15 county and city roads to be closed, along with State Route 465.
