Venezuelan national accused of taking $200K from Abilene ATM jailed on $30 million bond

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Venezuelan national accused of taking $200,000 from an Abilene ATM is now being held in the Taylor County Jail on a $30 million bond. 

Ronald Enrique Pena-Negrette was booked into the Taylor County Jail Tuesday for Unlawful Interception and Immigration in connection to the allegations.

Court documents state Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union reported someone had “compromised” an ATM machine in March and took $200,000.

Surveillance video of the incident showed 3 individuals in two different vehicles, “breaching the ATM to access the computer hard drive in the machine,” according to the documents.

The vehicles fled the scene after compromising the ATM, and the documents state one of the vehicles was soon contacted in Eastland after it was involved in a crash.

Pena-Negrette then identified himself as the driver, according to the documents, which state investigators then learned he is, “a Venezuelan national that had pending deportation orders for failing to appear in court.”

Investigators were also able to determine Pena-Negrette was one of the individuals shown on surveillance video at the bank.

None of the other suspects involved in this case have been publicly identified, and no further information is available at this time.
