Lester was wanted on a first-degree murder warrant issued by the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office following the shooting death of 18-year-old Makenzie Kaleb Thomas on Sunday. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.
Officers responded to the shooting just after 11 p.m. at the intersection of Carol Street and Edwards Avenue, where Thomas was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated on the scene but ultimately died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Lester was initially charged with first-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm within a populated area. He is currently at the Tunica County Detention Center awaiting his first appearance before a judge.
The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday that another suspect was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Their identity and charges have not been released.
Thomas’ mother, Whitney Thomas, told WREG in an interview that her son and the two suspects are related and hung out together almost daily.
