Police investigate multiple threats to Silverton High School that canceled classes

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Authorities are investigating multiple threats aimed at Silverton High School over the past week that led the school to cancel classes and athletic events on Friday.

Silverton police said they are confident that the threats are isolated to the high school and classes at all other schools in the Silver Falls District will remain open with increased police presence at all locations.

“We are extremely grateful for the strong partnership we have with our local law enforcement agencies,” Superintendent Kim Kellison said. “Their attentive and collaborative efforts help us ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our school community.”

Several threats have rolled in since an initial lockdown took place on Friday, April 11 over reports of an active shooter. No injuries were reported and no threat was found.

Another threat came Thursday via a computer-generated phone call.

“While police staff were taking the call, the school resource officer was in contact with high school security, and officers immediately responded to the high school to ensure the safety of students and staff. No threat was found, and the school was released as regularly scheduled,” according to police.

However, officers were made aware of another implied threat to the high school on Friday, which led the district to close the school.

“Our students, families, staff, and community’s safety is the highest priority for the school district and police department. We will continue to work together to keep all parties safe and promptly informed,” officials said.
