One arrested for fatal shooting during basketball game in Yazoo City

YAZOO CITY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man is in custody in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred while a group of adults were playing basketball in Yazoo City.

According to the Yazoo City Police Department, Devarius Taylor turned himself in. He is being held on a $1 million bond for aggravated assault and murder.

The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Chapman Street just before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28.

One victim was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle with non-life threatening injuries. Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Dontavious Weekly, 29, of Yazoo City, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
