“Ikegami cameras were a logical choice for this latest expansion as they have proved very effective elements of our communications activity over the years,” says Patrick Buescher, assistant director of technical operations. “Examples are HDK-95C/4K systems at our Oakley campus and HC-HD300 models at The George and Eastside in Cincinnati. Since launching our online Crossroads Anywhere streaming channel, the church has seen a larger engagement from outside of our Metro area.”
“We have invested in three HDK-X500 3-CMOS HD HDR camera chains for the Dayton campus, each with a 7-inch viewfinder and OCP-500 control panel. The cameras’ 3-CMOS global-shutter imagers ensure the high resolution, precise color rendition and consistency which we associate with Ikegami equipment.
“Our aim is to deliver the most professional results possible whether televising in sunlight, artificial light or hybrid conditions for live streaming or subsequent post-production. Ikegami cameras also deliver in terms of production flexibility, giving freedom of camera position and connectivity. The HDR capability of each HDK-X500 is a further advantage as it gives us the ability to handle a very wide range of lighting levels. Another plus point is the integral video processing DSP which implements automatic optical vignetting correction plus a wide range of production tools including real-time color correction for scene matching.
“Above all, we find Ikegami cameras very logical to operate, allowing our camera teams to achieve their production goals confidently with a minimum of pre-shoot familiarization. That is particularly important when you have volunteer operators needing to get up to speed quickly. Ikegami continues to be a phenomenal partner.”
Teri Zastrow, Ikegami USA director of sales & marketing, says: “We are very gratified by this ongoing partnership with Patrick and his team in their sustained commitment to spreading the visibility of Crossroads Church both on-campus and online. Ikegami cameras continue to prove their effectiveness in delivering high signal quality, robust build quality and ergonomic excellence backed by efficient support from pre-sales and onward through the lifetime of each product.”
HDK-X500 performance parameters include a horizontal resolution of 1,000 TVL (typical centre resolution at 5% modulation), 62 dB typical signal to noise ratio and F11 sensitivity (1080/59.94i). The HDK-X500 is also capable of high frame-rate capture at 2x speed or low-frame-rate capture, both as software license options.
Ikegami adds: “Like the other cameras in the Ikegami Unicam-XE family, the HDK-X500 fully conforms to ITU-R BT.2020 specifications, covering a wider area than the conventional BT.709 color space for HD. In combination with the wide dynamic range of the CMOS sensors, brilliant HDR pictures can be produced by using the pre-installed HLG optoelectronic transfer function conforming to the ITU-R BT.2100 international standard. This allows detailed image reproduction from bright highlights through to deep shadows.”
Founded in 1995, Crossroads is a multisite nondenominational church. It was named the fourth-largest and the fastest-growing church in America in 2017 with over 34,000 average weekend attendees. Crossroads has nine physical locations in Ohio and Kentucky augmented by its online streaming platform with over 6,000 viewers watching services weekly.
