Organizers of the Crescent City Pitmasters competition CEO Telly Madina and chef from from Maui Tortillas, Will Avelar, spoke with Moving New Orleans Forward anchor LBJ to discuss how the event came about.
“What is new Orleans barbecue profile? What is New Orleans barbecue. It’s the thing that we want to get established on Saturday, April 19, at Milne Playground,” said Mandina.
This is the third annual competition where competitors, 20 teams, from across New Orleans, Mississippi and Baton Rouge, come together to see who is the best in New Orleans bar-b-que.
“So we’re going to have this internal competition this weekend on Saturday and I’ll be judging these two guys brisket. What I’m going to do is, demonstrate how to make our Birria tacos utilizing the, smoked barbecue brisket,” said Avelar.
For details on the event, visit the Crescent City Pit Masters website.
“Food insecurity is a huge issue, but come to have your bellies full, watch the competitors come out and see the vendors, get face paint and there is Stem NOLA. Come and spend time with your family. I can’t cook like this. I never will be able to, but Chef Will will be there. Come and figure out how to make these tacos and how to eat good barbecue,” said Mandina.
