Several rounds of severe weather flooded neighborhoods near Clarksville and other communities near the state’s northern border. It’s left residents struggling to get their children to school on time and put food on the table.
With three toddlers and a baby on the way, Shannon Madayag said getting out of her house along Shadow Ridge Avenue is difficult. However, persistent floodwaters along her street have added to the challenge.
“There’s sewer spilling over into the water, and my kids have gotten sick from it,” Madayag said. “If you [had] seen the water a couple of days ago, there were dead worms and bugs and everything in all this water.”
Though she has parked her car uphill where waters have receded and the roadway is dry, she has still had to walk through her neighbor’s yard to get to her car. Other cars in the neighborhood were still underwater when News 2 visited Wednesday.
Other neighbors said they were worried about getting everything from food to prescriptions. It’s not the first time this area has struggled with flooding, either.
“I wasn’t as scared [this time] as I was the first time,” Madayag said. “The first time it flooded, I was pretty scared.”
We reached out to the city of Oak Grove. As of publication, there has been no response.
“I just really wish that [city officials] would get out here and deal with this,” Madayag added.
