Mississippi man killed in multi-boat crash during Major League Fishing tournament in Alabama

CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WJTV) – One of the three victims, who died after two boats crashed in Alabama during a Major League Fishing Tournament, was identified as a Mississippi man.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, John Clark, 44, of Cullman, Alabama, and Jeffrey Little, 62, of Brandon, Mississippi, were thrown overboard during the incident on Wednesday, April 16. They were both onboard the Center Console vessel involved in the crash.

Authorities said both Clark and Little drowned, and their bodies were recovered near the Miller Flats area of Smith Lake in Cullman County.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the third victim as Joey Broom, 58.

The crash happened on Lewis Smith Lake, a reservoir in the northern portion of the state, at around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Cullman County Emergency Management Agency.

The fishing tournament on Smith Lake was scheduled to run through Thursday. The tournament director confirmed to WHNT that the remainder of the competition has been cancelled.
