Caddo Teaching Academy offers free alternative teacher certification

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The alternative teacher certification program, Caddo Teaching Academy (CTA), is accepting applications for its next cohort.

The program addresses teacher shortages by offering aspiring teachers a no-cost, job-embedded program. CTA provides hands-on training while participants work full-time in classrooms. The two-year program requires no upfront fees.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree with a 2.2 minimum GPA and a passing score on the PRAXIS II exam. They should also submit official transcripts, a resume, three letters of recommendation, and their PRAXIS scores.

The certification areas are elementary grades, middle grades in core subjects, and secondary grades in English, math, biology, chemistry, and general science.
