Abilene ranks as the 2nd least affordable Texas city for energy, report says

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A new study by Home Energy Club shows that Abilene and neighboring San Angelo pay some of the highest electricity rates in Texas, averaging 16.19 cents per kilowatt-hour. That translates to an estimated monthly bill of $226.59.

In contrast, Houston tops the list for affordability, with residents paying just 14.10 cents per kilowatt-hour and an average bill of $197.50.

To determine its rankings, Home Energy Club factored in more than just electricity rates. The study also considered average household income and energy burden — how much of a person’s income goes toward energy costs.
