CHICAGO — Firefighters are battling a two-alarm blaze Wednesday morning at a warehouse in Austin on the city’s West Side.

The fire is in the 5000 block of West Lake Street, and the Chicago Fire Department says no injuries have been reported. The following photos are from CFD:

Crews were still battling the fire as of about 7 a.m. Wednesday, with smoke billowing from the warehouse. SkyCam 9 was over the scene and could see the smoke coming from the fire far away as it approached:

Due to the fire, W. Lake St. is closed from North Laramie Avenue to Cicero Avenue, and CTA Green Line service from Harlem/Lake to Ashland has been suspended because the fire is right below the elevated tracks.

As a result, CTA says trains are operating only between Ashland/63rd, and 63rd/Cottage Grove and Ashland/Lake at this time. Shuttle buses are available between Harlem and Ashland/Lake to provide connecting service in both directions.

CTA emergency responders on scene say they also shut off power to the Green Line in the area of the fire.

It’s not clear if the warehouse is abandoned, or if there is a business currently operating at the building. This story will be updated as more details become available.
