CHICAGO (WGN) — A person of interest is in Chicago police custody months after an alleged targeted attack involving Jewish students
Just before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, Max Long said he was outside the student center on DePaul’s Lincoln Park campus with another student, holding a sign and a t-shirt standing against antisemitism, when a masked individual came up and started talking to him.

According to Long, while one of the individuals distracted him, a second person came up and knocked him unconscious. Long added that at the time of the incident, a group of pro-Palestinian protestors had gathered across the street.
Following the attack, Long suffered severe bruising and a concussion. A second victim who helped Long, Michael Kaminsky, was also injured and needed surgery.
About a week after the attack, Chicago police released photos of the suspect(s) allegedly responsible.
The news of a person of interest in police custody comes weeks after the two Jewish students sued DePaul University, alleging that the educational institution failed to protect them. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, April 2, seeks physical and emotional damages for the students.
“DePaul has failed me, not just as a student, but as a human being. Universities are supposed to be places of information, safety, and dialogue. But instead, they become platforms for fear, mob rule, and censorship,” Long said, as reported by WGN News.
Chicago police did not provide further details on the person of interest in custody.
